WORLD HEART DAY ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY, CCT, CGC LANDRAN

World heart day is a campaign established in partnership with World Health Organization to spread awareness about the health of heart among common people throughout the world. This initiative was started in 2000 to mobilize international action against cardiovascular disease. Department of Biotechnology, CCT Landran celebrated World Heart Day in collaboration with Ivy Hospital, Mohali on 29th September 2023 to join the global call to raise awareness about healthy heart. To start the celebration in the campus, guest of honor, Dr. Virendar Sarwal, Director Cardiac Surgery, Ivy Hospital, Mohali gave very informative talk on various risk factors like diabetes, stress, smoking, high fat diet related to cardiovascular diseases like and easy and healthy ways to stay fit in order to keep heart healthy. A rally was organized in the CGC campus to break the notion of lethargic mind and to spread the spark of stay fit. The rally was inaugurated by dignitaries at the campus. A free medical camp was also organized in collaboration with Ivy hospital Mohali at Village Saneta where students and faculty members participated in door to door campaigns and free medical tests were conducted like blood pressure, blood sugar, ECG etc. This medical camp was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Balvin Kaur Ghai, Obstetrics and Gynaecologist and Dr. Diksha, Medical Officer, Ivy Hospital. To conclude the celebration workout, fitness events like Zumba were performed by the students. Various competitions were organized raise the awareness about healthy heart activities like poster presentation, creative writing and oral presentation on the theme cardiovascular diseases and healthy heart. The vibrant event was organized resonating with the World Heart Day 2023 theme 'Use Heart, Know Heart with the objective to inculcate healthy habits and healthy lifestyle in order to empower ourselves to address CVD risk factors and improve disease outcomes.
