World Cancer Day “Close the Care Gap” From 2 nd to 4 th Feb. 2023

World cancer day is an international day marked to raise awareness and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. To unite this nationwide movement it’s a legacy followed by Department of Biotechnology, CCT, CGC, Landran, to devote two to three days for cancer awareness program, every year. On the first day (2nd Feb 2023) a walkathon of 5 km was conducted by the students and teachers of the department with an initiative for cancer awareness in the society. Around 150 participants with high spirits marched from the CGC Landran campus; covering the defined route via Bhago Majra Village and back to the campus. On the second day (3rd Feb 2023), various departmental activities were conducted by the department. Prof. Sushmita Ghoshal, Head oncology and radiology department, PGIMER Chandigarh was the guest of honour. Dr. Ghoshal made the audience aware about cancer by discussing the preventive measures, screening and earlier diagnosis. Other distinguished speakers in the event were Prof. Kulbhushan Tikoo from NIPER, Mohali, who delivered an informative talk on triple negative breast cancer, followed by Dr. Jatin Sarin (Director, Oncology) and Dr. Meenakshi (Head, Radiation Oncology) from IVY Hospital, Mohali, who discussed about cancer awareness in the society. These all sessions helped in spreading awareness about cancer avoidance. The day was not only filled of learning sessions but also had other activities like declamation contest on “Close the Care Gap”, potser making competition, fitness walk and zumba dance. On third day (4th Feb 2023) a medical camp was organized by the Biotechnology department in Village Saneta, Mohali in collaboration with IVY hospital Mohali. Under this camp a routine health care check up of around 150 people was conducted by a team of doctors and nurses from IVY hospital; assisted by the enthusiastic volunteer students and teachers from CGC Landran. In nutshell, all the events were a great learning to the students from the perspective of academics, co-curricular activities and a social activity.
