One Day Seminar on “National Vaccination Day”

The expert session was organised by the Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology, CGC Landran, Mohali. Dr. Sonica Sondhi, Associate Professor, Biotechnology Department, Dr. Aditya Kumar, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology Department and Dr Preeti were the coordinators of the event. The speaker for the event was Dr. Ravi Mishra, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh and Dr. Sunigdha, Consultant radiation Oncology, Ivy Hospital, Mohali. Dr. Ravi Mishra in his talk has emphasized the importance of vaccination for eradication of various diseases. He told that how, with the help of vaccine, we are able to completely eradicate polio, smallpox and measles. Starting from the basics of vaccines the speaker ended up with the current technologies available for manufacturing vaccines. He also told about the challenges faced he scientists in vaccine development. He also told about the recent vaccines on which his team is working upon and the vaccines which will be available in near future in market from his lab. He answered the queries by the audience very well. Overall, his session was very fruitful and interactive. The second session of the seminar was taken up by Dr. Sunigdha. She told about the importance of vaccination by taking example of Human Papilloma Virus, a causative agent of cervical cancer in women. Dr. Sunigdha emphasized that the administration of HPV vaccine is must for a woman. She told about the dosage and time period on which this vaccine can be taken. Overall, the session was very fruitful and interactive. It was a very insightful and interactive event for students in which our expert for the session briefed all about vaccines and their importance. The expert also highlighted the various techniques available to form future vaccines.
