Industrial visit to CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTech)

Department of Biotechnology organized an industrial visit to CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTech) on 14-03-2023 for M.Sc. Biotech students. The purpose of the visit was to educate students about highly equipped lab and instrumentation of microbial biotechnology. The informative round started with the introductory lecture by Dr. Mani Shankar Bhattacharya, Principal Scientist, he made students aware of bioprocess engineering techniques. He demonstrated the working of bioreactor, upstream and downstream processing. Later the students were demonstrated the function of Mass Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy by the officiating person. Students also visited the MTCC centre where they learned about culture collection and preservation. Students also visited protein science centre where they were made familiar with bioinformatics and genomics techniques. These all are highly sophisticated instruments and high in demand for industry and research areas. The students interacted with the scientists enthusiastically and posed numerous queries. Overall the visit was very fruitful.
