Industrial Visit at Central Poultry Development Organization Chandigarh for Biotechnology Students

Department of Biotechnology, CCP organized an industrial visit to Central Poultry Development organization,CPDO(NR), Chandigarh on 8th September 2023. CPDO is working for the development of Poultry Farms & provides all the technical requirements to the Poultry farmers of the Northern Region of India. CPDO (NR), Chandigarh also supplies “Parent Stocks” to various private & public Sectors for production of commercial hybrid chicks.

Ms Nidhi Gupta, Assistant Professor & Ms Shruti, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology along with 58 students of b.Sc. Biotechnology Semester 1 visited the CPDO (NR), Chandigarh on 8th September 2023. Dr. Vineet, Dr Rohit and Dr Priyank, Farm Managers at CPDO (NR) Chandigarh explained about Poultry management & production to students. Students were made aware about the hatchability of fertile eggs, feed conversion ratio, feed consumption ratio & many other areas related to their course. Students visited the Feed Analytical Laboratories where they were explained about the chemical composition of feed. Day old vaccination of chicks were also explained and demonstrated to the students.

Students also saw different breeds of cock & hens like Red Cornish Male, Aseal male, black & white Pymouthrock & varieties of Japanese quail.

The visit proved highly beneficial to the students as they got an opportunity to experience the learning of basic processes of poultry farming. The students who aspire to be entrepreneurs were highly motivated as they got an idea of setting up business in the area of poultry farming. Overall it was a highly interactive and informative visit.
