Farmers Gain Insights into Warehousing, Organic Farming and Waste Management
The Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology (CCT), CGC Landran, in collaboration with the Chaudhary Charan Singh National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (CCS NIAM), Jaipur, successfully organized a One-Day Awareness and Training Programme on Warehousing Development & Regulation on June 2, 2026. The programme was sponsored by the Warehouse Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA), Government of India.
A total of 53 farmers from District Mohali participated in the programme aimed at creating awareness about scientific warehousing, post-harvest management, sustainable agriculture, and value addition in farming.The event began with a floral welcome of the Guest of Honour, Dr. Rahul Sankhla, Consultant, CCS NIAM, Jaipur, by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Biotechnology, CCT Landran. Dr. Gurpreet Kaur welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of farmer-oriented training programmes in promoting agricultural innovation and rural development.As the Guest of Honour, Dr. Rahul Sankhla delivered the keynote technical session on Warehousing Development and Regulation. He elaborated on the role of scientific warehousing in reducing post-harvest losses, the benefits of WDRA accreditation, warehouse receipt financing, and opportunities available to farmers for improving storage and marketing of agricultural produce.A dedicated session on Organic Farming was conducted by Mr. Dharmender from Kudrat Farms, Mohali, who shared practical insights into organic cultivation practices, soil fertility enhancement, natural farming inputs, and sustainable crop production techniques.The session on Agricultural Waste Management was delivered by Ms. Deepanshi, Founder of Mycomazing and an alumna of CCT Landran. She discussed innovative and eco-friendly methods for managing agricultural residues, including the conversion of farm waste into valuable products, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and additional income opportunities for farmers.The programme witnessed active participation and interaction from the farmers, who engaged enthusiastically with the experts and sought solutions to practical challenges faced in farming, storage, and waste management.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the organizers, resource persons, and participating farmers. The programme successfully provided a platform for knowledge sharing and capacity building, reinforcing the commitment of CCS NIAM, WDRA, and CCT Landran towards sustainable agricultural development and farmer empowerment.
