Expert session on Eye Wellness in the Digital Age and free Eyesight Testing Camp

The Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology, CGC Landran, in association with Sohana Hospital, Mohali, organized an expert session on “Eye Wellness in the Digital Age” on August 13, 2026. The session was conducted by Dr. Aakriti Sharma, Associate Consultant, Ophthalmology, Sohana Hospital.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students and faculty members about the importance of maintaining healthy eyesight in today’s increasingly digital environment. With prolonged use of smartphones, laptops, computers, and other digital devices becoming an integral part of academic and professional life, the session emphasized the need for greater awareness and preventive eye-care practices.

During the interactive session, Dr. Sharma provided valuable insights into common vision-related problems, symptoms associated with prolonged screen exposure, healthy screen-use practices, and preventive measures for digital eye strain. She highlighted the importance of regular eye examinations, adequate lighting, maintaining an appropriate viewing distance, adjusting screen brightness, and taking regular breaks during extended periods of screen use.

As part of the initiative, an eyesight testing camp was also organized at the Department of Biotechnology. Students, faculty members, and other employees of CGC actively participated in the camp. Around 200 students and employees benefited from the eyesight screening, making the initiative a meaningful step towards promoting eye health and preventive healthcare awareness among the campus community.

The programme successfully combined expert guidance with preventive health screening, reinforcing the importance of responsible digital habits and regular eye care for maintaining long-term visual health.
