Advanced Agricultural Research at ICAR-IIMR

The Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology (CCT), CGC Landran, organized an educational visit to ICAR–Indian Institute of Maize Research (IIMR), Ludhiana, on 1 September 2026 for students of M.Sc. Biotechnology and B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester III. The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to advanced agricultural research, modern laboratory practices, and biotechnology applications in crop improvement and sustainable agriculture.

During the visit, Dr. Ph. Romen Sharma, Scientist, Agricultural Extension, highlighted the importance of agricultural extension and the transfer of scientific knowledge to farming communities. Dr. Mamta Gupta, Scientist and Senior Scale Researcher, ICAR-IIMR, briefed the students about ongoing research and the role of biotechnology in crop improvement, plant health, sustainability, and food security.

Students also visited the Plant Biochemistry, Plant Pathology, and Plant Biotechnology Laboratories, where they learned about research methodologies, scientific instrumentation, plant biochemical analysis, plant diseases, and biotechnology techniques used in crop research.

The visit enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world research applications and explore opportunities in agricultural research, higher studies, and biotechnology careers. The visit reflects the continued efforts of CGC Landran to provide students with meaningful experiential learning, industry and research exposure, and opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their future careers
