Guest lecture on Phylogenetic Analysis in Bioinformatics

Dr. Mohinder Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology, CGC Landran, delivered a guest lecture on “Phylogenetic Analysis in Bioinformatics: Tree Construction Methods, Computational Tools and Applications” for undergraduate students of the Departments of Biotechnology and Zoology at Govt. Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh. The expert session was organized by the Grey Hornbill Society, PGGC-11 on September 24, 2026. During the session, Dr. Mohinder Pal introduced students to the fundamentals of phylogenetic analysis, including tree-construction methods, computational tools, and their applications in biological research. He highlighted its applications in evolutionary studies, biodiversity, microbial research, pathogen analysis, and sequence analysis. The interactive session provided students with valuable insights into the use of computational approaches in modern biological research, inspiring them to explore the growing interface of bioinformatics, computational biology, and life sciences. This expert talk marked a significant academic initiative under the MoU between PGGC-11 and the IQAC, CGC Landran, reflecting the commitment of both institutions towards academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and meaningful engagement between faculty and students.
