Two-Day National Workshop on CRISPR-CAS, AI and Next-Generation Biotechnology
The Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, successfully organised a Two-Day National Workshop & Skill Development Training Programme on “CRISPR-Cas in Genome Editing, AI & Next-Generation Biotechnology: Learning Practically for Professional Career” on 5–6 October 2026.
The programme was conducted under the aegis of Dr. Narotam Sharma, Managing Director, Scientist & Head, CRIS DNA Labs, Dehradun. The workshop provided students with experiential and hands-on exposure to CRISPR-CAS genome editing, molecular biology tools, bioinformatics tools for CRISPR guide design, Artificial Intelligence,Guide RNA design, CRISPR data visualization, Data analysis and interpretation and Computational approaches to genome-editing workflows. Practical sessions covered competent cell preparation, transformation, plasmid-based techniques, CRISPR workflows, gene silencing, guide-RNA design, computational analysis and data visualisation.
The programme strengthened the academic–industry interface between CGC Landran and CRIS DNA Labs under the Centre of Excellence initiative, while promoting experiential learning, skill development, multidisciplinary education, research and innovation, industry–academia collaboration, and employability enhancement.
The technical sessions were led by a team of experts, including Dr. Ankita Singh, Deputy Director & Scientist, CRIS DNA Labs; Mr. Ritik Dogra, and Mr. Vishal, Research Assistants, CRIS DNA Labs who provided scientific lectures, laboratory demonstrations and hands-on mentoring. Students also participated in oral and poster presentations and a Scientific Rangoli competition, encouraging research aptitude, scientific communication and creativity. Participants were recognised for their academic and scientific contributions, including presentation and competition-based activities. Certificates and awards were incorporated into the programme framework, with certificates provided to registered participants and special recognition for outstanding scientific presentations and other competition categories. The organisers appreciated the active participation of students, faculty members, technical experts and the CRIS DNA Labs team and emphasised the importance of continuing hands-on, research-driven and industry-linked learning.
The two-day workshop successfully provided an integrated platform for learning, experimentation, innovation and professional skill development in the emerging areas of CRISPR-Cas genome editing, Artificial Intelligence, bioinformatics and next-generation biotechnology.Overall, the programme successfully integrated classroom knowledge, laboratory practice, computational tools, scientific communication and career-oriented skill development into a structured two-day learning experience.
