World Cancer Day Observed by Department of Biotechnology in Collaboration with Livasa Hospital, Mohali
The Department of Biotechnology, in collaboration with Livasa Hospital, Mohali, organized World Cancer Day 2026 under the theme “United by Unique” with the aim of promoting early detection, prevention, and compassionate care. The event began with a Walkathon and Awareness Skit by students of Biotechnology, for Cancer Awareness at Prachin Kala Kendra, Sector 71, Mohali in association with Livasa Hospital.
The formal programme commenced with the inauguration and lamp lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Palki Sahib Kaur, Director-Principal, CCT.A powerful cancer survival story was shared by special guest Dr. Supriya Agnihotri, Head of the Department, CCP, which deeply inspired the audience. The awareness programme was graced by Dr. Parneet Singh, Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncology, Livasa Hospital, Mohali, who delivered an enlightening session on modern cancer treatment modalities, the significance of early diagnosis, and the importance of holistic and patient-centered care. He highlighted recent advancements in radiation therapy and emphasized their role in improving survival rates and enhancing the quality of life of cancer patients.
To actively engage students and encourage creative expression, various competitions were organized. In the Declamation Competition, Niharika secured the first position, followed by Anuneet in second place and Aashka in third place. In the Poster Making Competition, Sabia Gurung won the first prize, Pallavi Rathore secured second position, and Palakpreet Kaur achieved third position.
The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and the felicitation of the guest speaker, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head of the Department of Biotechnology. The event successfully raised awareness and motivated students to play an active role in building a society that is informed, empathetic, and united in the fight against cancer.
