
Seminar on Drug De-addiction
On 13-08-2024, a seminar on Drug De-addiction was organized by Department of Biotechnology Chandigarh College of Technology in collaboration with Fortis Hospital, Mohali. The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction, provide information on treatment options, and promote a drug-free lifestyle. Dr. Mehraaj Sandhu, MD Neuropsychiatric, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, discussed the current trends in drug abuse, particularly among youth and socio-economic impact of addiction on communities. He focused on psychological aspects of addiction, including the factors that contribute to substance abuse and the importance of early intervention. He also presented medical treatment options available for addiction.
This session provided an overview of what addiction is, how it develops, and its effects on the brain. Strategies for preventing drug abuse were discussed, with a focus on education, community programs, and family involvement. The importance of a strong support network was emphasized, including the roles of family, friends, and peer support groups in helping individuals through recovery. As a part of this event poster making and declamation competitions were organised. Ishita, Sheetal and Rachita of B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester 1 were the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of posters. The winners for declamation were Shivangi (1st), Anmol Khusi (2nd) and Aashtka (3rd) of B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester 1. All the winners were felicitated. The seminar concluded with a call to action, urging participants to take an active role in preventing drug abuse within their communities. The hundred attendees took a pledge under NASHA MUKT Bharat Abhiyan to support the drug free India movement.
