Report World’s Water Day 2024 organized by Biotechnology Department

Since 1993, March 22 has been observed to highlight the importance of freshwater. The day is focused on taking action to address the global water crisis. World Water Day highlights the critical link between water cooperation and global harmony. Water demand is expected to increase from 40 billion cubic metres (bcm) today to approximately 220 bcm by 2025. Water scarcity has become a major issue that, if not addressed promptly, will pose a risk. So, 28th February 2024, a group of 24 students of B.Sc. (Hons) Microbiology, 2nd, 4thsemester and B.Sc. Biotechnology 4th semester accompanied by faculty members Dr. Kriti Kanwar and Dr. Nistha, visited village Saneta, Kharar, Mohali, Punjab for outreach program on water conservation. People in large numbers attended, and they were encouraged to conserve every drop of water and not waste it. The children performed small skits demonstrating water conservation techniques. In addition, the importance of rainwater harvesting and how to do it were explained. They were encouraged to improve water management practices that reduce water waste while increasing the beneficial uses of water. This motivated the public, who joined hands and took an oath to use water properly and to motivate others as well.
