WORLD HEART DAY
Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology in collaboration with Ivy Hospital, Mohali organized a special event to commemorate World Heart Day 2022. Observed every year across the globe, this day seeks to highlight actions that people can take to prevent and control cardiovascular diseases. The event at CGC was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Harinder Singh Bedi, Director Cardio-Vascular Endovascular and Thoracic Sciences, Ivy Hospital, Mohali in the presence of Dietician Deepshika, Department of Food and Nutrition, Dr. Simran, Medical Officer,Ivy Hospital, Mohali, Campus Dir. Sir Dr. P.N. Harisheekesha and Dir. Principal sir Dr. Saurabh Sharma.
Through an engaging session on taking care of one’s heart, Dr.Bedi, a pioneer in the field of beating heart surgery and an internationally acclaimed heart surgeon, urged the audience to “Be heart smart and adopt an active lifestyle by being mindful of introducing moderation in every aspect”.
Post this, Dietitian Deepshikha conducted a special talk enumerating the importance of balanced and healthy diet which if followed could go a long way in preventing heart disease.
After this, a massive “Healthy Heart Awareness” rally was taken out in the premises of the CGC, Landran Campus. Post-lunch session was full of enthusiasm and energy with mesmerizing student performances like fitness walk, singing performances brainstorming quiz competition and skit entitled “Join the fight treat your heart right”. The session was concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. Nitish Kumar (MSc. Sem 1 Biotechnology) and Ms. Jhanvi (BSc. Sem 1 Biotechnology) grabbed the title of Mr.Fit and Ms.Fit, respectively. Mohammad Zohan (BSc. Sem 5 Biotechnology) and Renu Chauhan (B.Pharma. Sem 7) bagged first and second prize, respectively in face painting. In slogan writing competition, Tanvi Salaria, Sunidhi and Meghna won first, second and third prize, respectively. The winners of quiz competition were Alok Pathak(1st), Ashu Singh(2nd) and Aditi Mahajan(3rd).
