World Cancer Day

Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology, CGC, Landran, Mohali hosted an awareness session on “World Cancer Day” on 4th February, 2022, with Guest of Honour, Dr. Priyanshu Choudhary (Oncologist, Consultant, Shalby Hospital, Mohali and Dietitian Shreya Goel, Director, Dietician Shreya’s Family Diet Clinic. The session started with the welcome note from respected Campus Director, Prof. (Dr.) P.N. Hrisheekesha, by welcoming the participants as well as the Guest of honours. The first expert talk of the session was headed by Dr. Priyanshu Choudhary on the topic on “Early detection and prevention of cancer”. He is an AIIMS, New Delhi alumnus and also a well renowned personality in the field of medical sciences. The second expert talk was conducted by Dietitian Shreya Goel, who is a nutrition expert in PGIMER and ex-clinical nutritionist from Fortis, TEDx Speaker as well as Global Women Leadership sward holder. Both the lectures emphasized on both clinical as well as biological aspects of the disease. The aim was to reduce misconceptions surrounding cancer and the prejudices associated with it, to help people in getting the right information about it. Various technical events like Oral and Poster presentation were conducted for the students. Students showcased their talent in the form of various poster as well as power point presentation entries. In Oral presentation event, Navreet (B.Sc. Biotech Sem 6) bagged 1st prize. In Poster presentation event, Simran (B.Sc. Biotech Sem 1) and Yashita (B.Sc. Biotech Sem 6) bagged the 1st and 2nd positions, respectively. Department of Biotechnology always encourages development of professional and technical skills in students by providing platform to gain knowledge and exposure. Overall, a well-structured session was conducted that not only gave an insight towards the disease but also created wide-spread awareness.
