
Educational visit to IHBT Palampur by Department of Biotechnology
A captivating two-day educational trip was organized for the Biotechnology and Microbiology students on 6-7th March 2025 to the Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur. A total of 46 enthusiastic students, accompanied by esteemed faculty members Dr. Ranju Rathour, Dr. Harjodh, and Mr. Vikas Menon, embarked on this enriching journey. The trip was designed to provide students with practical insights into the latest research and technological advancements in biotechnology and microbiology.
The adventure began with a visit to the iconic Baglamukhi Temple, where students and faculty offered prayers for a successful and meaningful trip. The group also made a brief stop at the Baijnath Mahadev Temple, an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, which offered a serene and spiritual moment before continuing their journey.
Upon reaching IHBT, the students participated in an insightful introductory session about the institute’s pioneering research in plant biotechnology, microbial technology, and bioresource conservation. The students explored state-of-the-art laboratories, gaining hands-on experience in microbial culture techniques, fermentation technology, and plant tissue culture.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the institute’s breathtaking tulip garden, in full bloom and showcasing a vibrant array of tulip varieties. The group also toured the lush tea gardens, where they learnt about the cultivation and processing techniques of tea, an integral industry in the region.
The students had the invaluable opportunity to engage with scientists involved in cutting-edge research, which gave them a deeper understanding of the vast career opportunities in research and development.
Overall, the trip was an inspiring blend of learning, exploration, and personal growth, leaving the students motivated and excited for future career paths in biotechnology and microbiology.
